The new Oakdale Park Playground in Montville, CT was intentionally designed to remove the physical and social barriers that traditionally sideline children with disabilities. Oakdale Park’s new action-packed PsychoMotor Course is a wild and welcoming space, and is paving the way for every child to play, belong and thrive together.
Made by Jambette, the playground equipment supports universal design principles, welcoming children of all abilities. Unique features include:
- Inclusive Slides: Provides powerful vestibular input creating the sense of movement, balance and spatial orientation.
- Adapted Curved Overhead Loop Ladder: Emphasizes upper body strength, grip strength and coordination. For children with physical disabilities, supported hanging and reaching strengthen muscles used for sitting or standing balance.
- Mobile Deck for Wheelchair Access Ramp: Enables wheelchair access to the play deck and the joyful experience of a gentle rocking and swinging motion.
- The Adapted Overhead Ring Ladder: Refines motor control and bilateral coordination (using both sides of the body together).
