From Milk Jugs to Magic: Sustainable Play Comes to the JCC of the North Shore
Laughter and imagination come to life for every age of early childhood at the Jewish Community Center of the North Shore in Marblehead, MA’s new playground. Premier Park & Play partnered with the JCC to accomplish their vision of a sensory-rich, inclusive play area that meets the developmental needs of three distinct age groups. By enhancing the existing space with equipment made from recyclable milk jugs, this joyful escape proves that sustainability and play are a perfect match.
INFANT DISCOVERY AREA (6–23 months): Tiny explorers stretch, crawl, roll, and pull themselves up as they conquer their very first milestones.
- Daisy Structure – Children bloom through play, gliding down the slide and exploring sounds on the Chickadee Chime Panel.
- Interactive Play Panels – Little hands spin, tap and touch textured surfaces that build fine motor and sensory skills.
TODDLER ADVENTURE AREA (18-36 months): Little adventurers master new challenges, fostering cognitive development and enhancing fine motor skills.
- Swiss Chalet: Adventurous climbers scale the Cheesy Stairway as their buddies zoom off in the two-seater Mini EV Car.
- Double Natural Bowls: Kids dig and explore treasures, creating super fun experiments.
PRESCHOOL EXPLORATION SPACE (ages 2–5 yrs.): Climb higher, imagine bigger, and play together in more complex ways! Children acquire physical strength, problem-solving skills and social-emotional growth in this sensory-rich play area.
- Modified Foxy: Toddlers scamper across the arch climber and bridge, peek through playful panels, pounce down the wave slide, and tap lively rhythms on the chimes.
- Musical Instruments: Do-Re-Me-Fa-So-La-Ti-Do! Children are stimulated through sound, movement, and touch, teaching language development.
- Tot House + Sand House: Laughter abounds in these timeless play spaces, where kids climb, slide and make “sand pies” while learning strong social interaction skills.
