Fairhaven Recreation Celebrates New Playground Opening
With laughter and excitement in the air, Fairhaven Recreation proudly unveiled its new playground on November 26, 2024. Surrounded by smiling children, town officials, and project partners, Recreation Director Kelley Ramirez led the joyful ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the special occasion.
The brand new play space, located behind the Recreation Center at 227 Huttleston Avenue, features modern, inclusive equipment designed for kids of all abilities. The playground equipment by Jambette is built on a safer, drier surface that replaces the frequently flooded old site. Its new location ensures year-round play and plenty of fun just steps from the Phoenix Bike Trail.
“This was a true team effort,” said Ramirez, who thanked contractor Premier Park & Play, the Department of Public Works, and the Council on Aging (COA) for their support. “The kids have always loved having a playground. But it was time for an upgrade since the equipment was outdated and the playground was underwater so often.”
The $200,000 project was funded through Bristol County’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and reflects the community’s dedication to accessible and active spaces for all. The community has plans to donate the older equipment.
Local children gave the new playground rave reviews, calling it “really fun” and “the best playground!” Select Board Chairperson Stasia Powers summed it up perfectly. “This is a wonderful investment in our community, encouraging outdoor play and exercise right near the bike path.”
